Winemakers by tradition, dedicated to cultivating Nero d’Avola for five generations.
The Sultana family's winemaking tradition dates back to Corrado Sultana in 1877, followed by Rosario Sultana in 1905 and Corrado Sultana in 1932.
Since 2000, Rosario Sultana, together with his wife Francesca Mauceri, revitalised the estate by planting new vineyards of Nero d’Avola and Syrah trained with spur cordon, an alternative to the outdated bush vine training. They built two new wineries, Triona and Burgio, equipped with modern vinification facilities, started bottling their wines and selling directly to consumers.
The advancing new generation consists of three pillars: Corrado, Giuseppe and Giovanni Paolo, who represent the future of the estate.
In the Pachino countryside, the musky scent of wet earth in autumn blends with the sap exuding from the winter pruning of the vines.
The persistent and delicate fragrance of the vineyard in bloom in spring merges with the explosion of colours as the countryside awakens. The warm African wind, softened by the sea breeze, spreads the scent of sulphur fallen on the sun-dried earth in summer.
The caramelised aroma of ripe late summer grapes mixes with that of yellowed and dry leaves fallen to the ground. A marvel worth the journey to rediscover flavours and scents. Our territory, located at the southernmost tip of Sicily where the Ionian and Mediterranean seas meet, along with their conflicting winds, has always been an area of exceptional viticultural vocation. Here, grapes reach full and natural ripeness thanks to absolutely unique pedoclimatic characteristics.
The high intensity of light captured by the leaves is a key factor in concentrating in the grapes all those substances that make the difference compared to the same variety grown in other parts of Sicily.
