The most common varieties of pears in Sicily are: Coscia, Spadona summer, Citron des Carmes, Gallo, Gentile, and Iazzolo.

The Gentile pear is also known as "San Giovanni Pears" because they ripen at the end of June, around the 24th of June, which is the feast of Saint John.
