A beautiful bright ruby with aromas on the nose of broad and persistent notes of small pink fruits, sea stones, and spiced tobacco. On the palate it is fresh, rich, persistent, and endowed with a wide volume of sweet tannins.

Vinification in truncated conical steel vats. Punching down (5 times a day) for one month. Pressing of the skins. The wine is left on the lees until January of the following year, after which the blending is carried out.

Maturation in medium/small French oak barrels for 18 months (second passage) and in cement tanks

Le Casematte is a Sicilian winery founded in 2008. It was born from the dream of Gianfranco Sabbatino, an accountant by profession and a winemaker by passion. Later, Andrea Barzagli, a former footballer and a true Florentine, joined him, bringing his great passion for the wine sector. The vineyards overlook the Strait of Messina, in the Faro area, at over 500 metres above sea level.

The vineyard overlooking the Strait of Messina is located in Faro Superiore, the hilly village that gives its name to the entire Faro DOC, in the far north of Sicily. The winery owes its unique name to the presence of two casemates.
The total vineyard area is about 11 hectares and is cultivated organically with varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nocera, and Nero d’Avola, in the proportions established by the Faro DOC regulations for black grapes, as well as Grillo and Caricante for white grapes.
The training systems used are espalier and bush vine.

The winery, modern and functional, has recently been expanded and equipped with a new barrel cellar for ageing and a comfortable panoramic tasting room. The hilly soils where our terraced vineyards lie reach about 500 metres in altitude, face north, and overlook the sea. The winds from the Ionian and Tyrrhenian seas that meet in the nearby Strait of Messina create a unique microclimate that greatly favours the temperature variation between day and night, even in the height of summer, thus preventing thermal stress on our vines during the delicate ripening phase.
