Noà Sicilia DOC Cusumano
At Tenuta Presti e Pegni lies the plot hosting the old vines of the powerful Nero d’Avola, which, combined with the soft Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, gives life to this Noà, named after Noah, the man who first produced wine. Maturation in oak barrels rounds out the Nero d’Avola, enhancing the Merlot and Cabernet which develop their typical complexity on these clay soils.
The Cusumano wine estate is made up of four properties, each with distinctive soil characteristics:
- Tenuta Ficuzza, located in Piana degli Albanesi (PA), consists of vineyards surrounded by the Ficuzza forest at 700 metres above sea level. It is the first estate of the new era. Here grow Insolia, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir;
- Tenuta San Giacomo, at 400m above sea level, dedicated to Nero d'Avola. Here, a strong temperature difference between day and night ensures the grapes retain high acidity;
- Tenuta Presti e Pegni, situated in Monreale on hills where the vineyards are exposed to the sun from dawn to dusk. As the air cools, the sea breeze arrives from about 10 km away, dissipating the heat. This is home to international grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and also Sicilian Syrah.
- Tenuta Monte Pietroso, locally known as Tramontana. A special setting for Grillo. Here the soil is sandy loam, a loose soil identified as ideal for cultivating this grape variety, which in this estate manages to bring out a natural freshness and minerality that enhance its character, elegance, and ageing potential.
